All About Meizu 16th

This Meizu 16th is made of ceramic and metal with a gradient blue color on the back. The dimensions do not vary much from its predecessor, the Meizu 15. The dimensions are 73.2mm wide, 150.5mm high, and 7.3mm thick, weighing 152g.

This phone also breaks with the new aesthetics of the notch we are so used to seeing. Instead of the “tab” or “protrusion” on the screen, this Meizu has skinny symmetrical frames at the top and bottom (very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S9). In this case, the selfie camera is on the upper edge, the speaker for calls and the notification LED in white. The bottom frame is completely free.

This phone has a 6-inch Super AMOLED On-cell screen with a Full HD + resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels and a density of 402 pixels per inch. The aspect ratio is 18:9, and it has a functional area of 84%, a spectacular figure since few phones can boast of this figure with a screen of 6 “or less.

The screen has an outstanding quality, with a wide range of colors. The brightness is also excellent (430cd/m²), and it looks perfect. The comment is that you can see the screen horizontally and vertically with polarized sunglasses.

As a novelty, this Meizu 16th adds an optical fingerprint reader on the screen that works quite well without having to force the screen. To say that with a wet finger, it works pretty severely and if we put a tempered glass on it, as some user has told us, it is advisable to register the fingerprint again, since otherwise, the detection will fail us a lot. Even so, as you know, there are many types of protection glass; in our case, we have put a very thick one, which worsens the reading.

On the back of the device, we find two cameras located vertically in the center and a LED flash with up to 6 intensities below.

Like most phones, on the left side is the slot for nano SIM cards and on the right side is the volume up and down button and the power button.

The lower central part has the USB type C (reversible), and on the sides are the holes for the speaker, the microphone, and the hole for the 3.5mm Jack connector for the headphones. On the contrary, the upper part is completely free except that it adds another microphone.

Power and Hardware

Like any high-end phone, this Meizu has Qualcomm’s quintessential processor, the 8-core Snapdragon™ 845, with a clock frequency or maximum speed of 2.8GHz. It is a low-power 10nm processor.

It is a chip with 64-bit architecture and various Cortex A76 and Cortex A55 structures. In addition, it is accompanied by a graphics card (GPU) Adreno ™ 630 GPU.

In this case, this model has 6GB of high-speed LPDDR4X type RAM. (there is a version with 8GB of RAM).

But to get an idea of what it is capable of, we have subjected it to the AnTuTu Benchmark v7 test, which indicates its total performance. To do this, and with the phone and only with the applications from the factory and has obtained a value of 285,285 points.

It is a figure that places it as one of the most powerful phones on the market.

As for internal storage, there are two models, one with 64GB and the other with 128GB of memory. Both are UFS 2.1 types for faster read and write speed. In this case, after doing a storage speed test, it has reached a figure of 555.86MB/s of reading (the reading speed has not been able to measure).

software

This Meizu is updated to the latest version of Android, Android 8.1.0 Oreo, under the Flyme 7.1.1 customization layer. In this case, it is a Global stable multi-language ROM.

Like many operating systems, this customization layer does not include an application drawer, so the apps will all be grouped in folders on the main screen. On the other hand, mention that the appearance of this theme is effortless and intuitive. However, if we don’t like it, we can also change the appearance of the desktop using a “launcher” or the “Themes” application that comes with it or by installing another “launcher.”

This phone has Google services, including the Google Play application store, YouTube, Maps, Gmail… In addition, it also comes with Android and Meizu applications such as App Store (own store from Meizu), Calendar, Notes, Weather, Calculator, a file explorer…

In addition to having an on-screen fingerprint reader, it also has facial recognition that works accurately, although not if we wear sunglasses. The comment is that this functionality has two configuration options: the instant unlocks option or the unlock option by sliding the lock screen (once the face is detected). (I do not like this second option).

As for the fingerprint, as I will explain later, it is a fingerprint sensor on the screen, which will light up when we touch it.

This phone also has options to change the screen brightness to suit the environment’s needs. For example, the screen can be more yellow at night to avoid straining the eyes.

After running the Malwarebytes antivirus, as always, two malicious applications have been detected. Once adware inserts advertising, the other is a Trojan that can be uninstalled.
